After two days of unprecedented interruptions to air traffic, demonstration and violence at the airport in Hong Kong, the traffic is today resuming normal operations.
Over the last three days more than five hundred flights in and out of Hong Kong has been canceled, and many flights yesterday left half-empty after check-in was closed at 4:30 PM and only those who had checked in by then or who arrived in transit were able to board their outbound flight.
A court order has now been issued, banning protesters at Hong Kong airport, except from two small areas in the arrival hall, next to the exits.
I believe this will be the end of the disruptions at the airport for now, and flights in and out of Hong Kong should be operating more or less normally, although it will probably take a couple of days for all the operators to get the correct planes to the correct destinations. We will also see an increase in capacity for a lot of destinations, as stranded passengers needs to be re-booked onto other planes. As an example Thai has been using A380s instead of their normal planes on some flights between Hong Kong and Bangkok, and Eva has been using a lot of Tripple 7s instead of smaller planes.
