Introduction – 48 hours in Saipan, Northern Mariana Islands

Ever since I landed my job in Hong Kong almost 2 years ago I was getting excited about the traveling oportunities from here. There are so many places available within a short distance of flying, and so many places to explore and discover.

One of my ways of planning a trip is just to look at the destinations offered by the local operators, and if something stands out I want to explore it more. Saipan has almost since day one been on top of my list, it was one of those places I had heard about, but I was not quite sure where it really was.

Anyways, seeing that Hong Kong Express was operating flights there 3 times a week, I decided to go and have a look around when the schedule fit with my days off at work. The flight timings were not particularly good, flights departing Hong Kong at 21:30, arriving Saipan at 04:25 the next morning, and the other direction departing at 05:$0, arriving at 08:40. To be sure to have a room at a hotel, it also ment booking 3 nights, even though I’d only have 48 hours on the island.

The tickets with Hong Kong express cost 2267 HKD, including seat reservation. After looking around for cheap but descent hotels I choose the GranVrio in Garapan, which cost HKD 3387 for 3 nights.
