Review – Angeles Beach Club Hotel (ABC Hotel), Angeles City, Philippines

Knowing that the house would be full of visitors for Alexhandras 7th birthday, and the fact that I needed a little bit of a holiday on my own, I decided to check out the Angeles City Beach Club hotel (ABC Hotel) for a couple of nights after the family celebration of her birthday was finished 😀

I booked the room through CitiBanks rewards programme with Agoda.com, and got a better price than normal, even though I chose the cash only options (never use Citi rewards for hotel booking, plane tickets are much better value in my opinion.)

  • Date of stay: August 23-26, 2019
  • Room type: Standard Suite
  • Price: HKD783 per night

The ABC hotel was a few years ago listed on top of Tripadvisors top 10 lists of the craziest party hotels in Asia, but it seems to have gone from that list for now. The hotel though seemed to try to keep up the reputation, the welcome drink I was served was a tequila shot – first time ever I have been given anything other than fresh juice or a glass of champagne…

After I had finished my shot the check-in process was quickly completed, and I was guided to my room on the 2nd floor. There was no lift to the first 3 floors in the block I was in, so I had to take the stairs up to my room (I could also have taken the lift to the 4th floor and then walked down to the 2nd.)

The room was very spacious, and had a nice, soft carpet covering all the floor. It featured a large, king size bed:

Then there was a very comfortable 2+1+1 sofa group

There was a small work desk, and a large TV/entertainment bench with minibar, snack, coffe/tea etc.

The minibar was well stocked
Free bottled water, kettle and tea/coffee
There were lots of free vouchers for drinks and massage, and discounts for other spa treatments
The price list was very reasonable.
There were several massage options, but this is the first time I have seen a Hang-over treatment. Guess they are still trying to live up to their reputation as a party hotel 😀

The bathroom was very spacious as well, featuring double sinks, a decent sized bathtub and a large shower. There were also the normal selection of free amenities for the bathroom.

A fairly standard toilet.

The view from the room was not great, so I understand why they kept the curtains shut 😀

Being the middle of the rainy season when I was here, I did not check out the ground floor pool at all, as it was almost constantly raining, but I did go up to the Aqua club lounge, and the rooftop bar for my free drinks. The Aqua lounge can be really lively in the high season I believe, but when I was there it was mostly empty (and the rooftop even more so).

My welcome drink, a chilly mango margarita
The rooftop bar – deserted
There wasn’t even a bartender present at the rooftop bar.

So overall the hotel was fine, but seems to be a bit over the hill and going down quickly. I know that the wet season is not the liveliest of times to be here, but I was still disappointed by the lack of fun and activities to be had – I do think there are a lot better places to stay in Angeles nowdays, so ABC needs to step up their game if they want to keep competing with the new hotels popping up around town.
