Greater Bay Airlines starts operations today between Hong Kong and Bangkok.

It has been a while since the forming of Greater Bay Airlines was announced, and many have been waiting for news about them commencing operations from their base at Hong Kong International Airport.

Today is finally the day when they are starting, for now it will be a twice weekly operation between Hong Kong and Bangkok. The route will be operated by a Boeing 737-800, and the timings are as follows:
– Wednesday: Hong Kong departure 15:00, arriving Bangkok 16:50. Departure Bangkok 17:50, arriving in Hong Kong 21:40
– Saturdays: Hong Kong departure 10:30, arriving Bangkok 12:30. Departure from Bangkok 13:20, arriving in Hong Kong 17:10.

It is currently not possible (as far as I can see) to book tickets from their website, so to book you need to either contact their service center or book through a travel agency.

The price of the tickets are also not published yet, but they offer three different fare options:

  • Go Go which only includes one small cabin bag, and non-refundable and not re-bookable. This is the cheapest option.
  • Value Go is the middle level, which includes 10 kg of check-in baggage, re-bookable (but not refundable).
  • Flex Go as the most expensive option allows 20 kg of check-in baggage, seat selection and both re-bookable and refundable options.

All tickets comes with a fuel surcharge of 320 HKD per passenger, so I assume the cheapest fares will be close to this price, specially now in the beginning that they probably want to attract new customers to the airline.

I find it very exciting that GBA is finally starting operations, and I am looking forward to be able to try out their product and service as soon as travel restrictions in Hong Kong are canceled.
