According to civil international air traffic statistics at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) for March 2022, there was a significant increase in the number of passengers, with a total of 94,000 passengers compared to 58,000 in March 2021, representing a 61.3% increase.
In terms of cargo handled, there was a decrease in both the amount of cargo unloaded, with 136,000 tonnes in March 2021 compared to 131,000 in March 2022, and the amount of cargo loaded, with 261,000 tonnes in March 2021 compared to 221,000 in March 2022. This resulted in a total decrease of 11.4% in the amount of cargo handled at HKIA, with 397,000 tonnes in March 2021 compared to 352,000 in March 2022.
There was also a decrease in the number of flight movements at HKIA in March 2022 compared to the previous year. The number of passenger flights decreased by 22.0%, with 4,081 flights in March 2021 compared to 3,185 in March 2022. However, there was a slight increase in the number of cargo flights, with 6,327 in March 2021 compared to 6,405 in March 2022, an increase of 1.2%. The number of non-revenue flights also increased by 18.1%, with 237 flights in March 2021 compared to 280 in March 2022. Overall, there was a decrease of 7.3% in the total number of flight movements at HKIA, with 10,645 in March 2021 compared to 9,870 in March 2022.
