According to provisional civil international air traffic statistics at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) for April 2022, there was a significant increase in the number of passengers, with a total of 126,000 passengers compared to 60,000 in April 2021, representing a 109.4% increase. This marks a continued trend of growth in passenger numbers at HKIA over the past 12 months, with a total of 1,491,000 passengers in April 2022, an increase of 72.5% compared to the same period the previous year.
In terms of cargo handled, there was a slight decrease in the amount of cargo unloaded, with 123,000 tonnes in April 2021 compared to 122,000 in April 2022, and a slight decrease in the amount of cargo loaded, with 263,000 tonnes in April 2021 compared to 253,000 in April 2022. This resulted in a total decrease of 2.8% in the amount of cargo handled at HKIA, with 386,000 tonnes in April 2021 compared to 375,000 in April 2022. However, there has been an overall increase in cargo handling at HKIA over the past 12 months, with a total of 4,912,000 tonnes in April 2022, an increase of 5.7% compared to the same period the previous year.
There was also a slight decrease in the number of passenger flights at HKIA in April 2022 compared to the previous year, with a decrease of 13.3%, or 3,857 flights in April 2021 compared to 3,345 in April 2022. However, there was an increase in the number of cargo flights, with 6,328 in April 2021 compared to 6,700 in April 2022, an increase of 5.9%. The number of non-revenue flights also increased by 41.8%, with 194 flights in April 2021 compared to 275 in April 2022. Overall, there was a slight decrease of 0.6% in the total number of flight movements at HKIA, with 10,379 in April 2021 compared to 10,320 in April 2022. However, there has been an overall increase in flight movements at HKIA over the past 12 months, with a total of 144,450 in April 2022, an increase of 12.2% compared to the same period the previous year.
