October 1st Hong Kong got yet another operator on the Hong Kong – Bangkok route. Thai Lionair has now started daily flights between Hong Kong and Bangkok’s old airport Don Muang. They are the 3rd operator on this route (in addition to Air Asia and Hong Kong Express), and I think the 7th operator between Hong Kong and Bangkok – in addition to the route above, Hong Kong – Bangkok Suvarnabhumi is operated by Cathay, Greater Bay, Emirates and Thai Airways.
The route will be a once a day route, operated by a all economy class Boeing 737+8. the flights is scheduled to leave Bangkok at 08:30 and arriving on Hong Kong at 12:15. The return flight leaves Hong Kong at 13:15 and arrived at Don Muang at 15:00
Being a low cost operator, they offer very competitive prices, a random search in January shows flights starting for around 450 HKD each way, which is more than acceptable in my opinion.
I have in the past reviewed the route between Hong Kong and Don Muang here and here.. In addition Lounge Key has (or at least used to?) have a very good lounge at Don Muang, which I reviewed here.
Also, Bangkok is by far my favorite city in the world, and my last review of the cith can be found here.
Competition on those popular routes is always good in my opinion, and I welcome Thai LionAir to Hong Kong and hope they will be successful on their route. Unfortunately, the timings doesn’t suit me too well, so I probably won’t be using them in the near future, but I am looking forward to trying then one day.
