This was a sudden, unplanned trip to go and have dinner with a friend who has retired in Chiang Mai a couple of years ago, and when I found some cheap tickets with Hong Kong Express from Hong Kong to Chiang Mai I decided to make a quick trip over to see my friend. Due to work constraints I was only able to leave Hong Kong at 5pm, arriving in Chiang Mai at 7 pm, and returning the next morning at 10 am, so this will be just a very quick review.
- Date of stay: Just 15-16 2025
- Price: 27.000 Marriott Bonvoy Points
- Room booked: Deluxe guest room, 1 king.
- Room given: 1 bedroom executive suite, 1 king.

I am currently a Marriott Bonvoy Ambassador member, so I was expecting an upgrade of my room, but was still pleasantly surprised to be upgraded to an execute suite, as those upgrades does not always happen.
Unfortunately, I only arrived at the hotel around 19:30 local time, so there was no time to go and check out the lounge, as the service there was already finished, I guess I have to save that for my next visit.
Check-in was quick and easy, and I was at my room within a couple of minutes of arriving at the hotel. At check-in I was given the option of a free welcome gift or 1000 bonus points. As I am a long term resident at another Marriott Hotel I can only earn points at one hotel at a time (a silly rule in my opinion), so I choose the free welcome gift.

The lay-out of the suite was slightly different from other places I have stayed, as there were no door between the living room and the bedroom, just two open doorways between the two rooms, and wall in the middle with a TV on each side.

I am not sure how practical this layout is, when I am traveling with my kids I prefer to be ablet to close off the spaces between the rooms so they can be noisy in one room and I can relax in the other, but as I was on my own it was fine 🙂
The living room consisted of a sofa, 2 comfortable chairs and a table by the window, and a small bar counter with a minibar and espresso machine and water.

There was a handwritten welcome note from both the general manager and the loyalty manager, a very nice touch.

There were also a welcome gift of a fruit basket and some nuts and snacks. No bottle of wine like many other places though. Yes, I know I am getting spoiled 😀

In the living room there was also like a small bar counter with an espresso machine, a minibar that was very reasonable prices (softdrinks 25 bath, beers 60-90) and several bottles of complimentary water.

The bedroom was also slightly different, a normal king size bed, but instead of a chair or two there were a large sofa in front of the window, and this was even more comfortable than the one in the living room.

The view from the bedroom window was also really nice.

The room was also nicely decorated with elephant statues and pictures, a nice touch.

Then for probably the highlight of the room, the bathroom. I think this is probably the largest bathroom I have ever had in a hotel, with a large rain-shower (could easily fit 10 people in there) a full size bathtub/jacuzzi, double vanities and a large walk-in closet.

There were also a offering of the standard Marriott bathrobes, super soft!

The staff had also left a nice greeting for me written on the mirror in the bathroom 🙂

Next to the bathroom there was a walk-in closet with a safe and the normal accessories you find in Marriott hotels.

There was also an ironing board and an iron, which I choose not to use 😀

This evening I met up with my friend for a few drinks and some food at Chef’s Together, where we had some great Thai food and way too many beers.

Due to the excessive amount of beers my friend insisted on ordering and an early flight the next morning there were no photos taken of the breakfast, but it was good, standard Marriott spread with fresh fruits, omelette station, hot and cold dishes, and both international and local cuisine, as well as a good pastry selection and fresh juices and coffee.
Overall a very nice stay, just way to short, total time spend in booked in at the hotel was about 12, and only 5 of those actually spent in the hotel, so I need to come back and explore more.
This was also my first trip to Chiang Mai since around 2004. The city was not recognizable, so I also need to go back there to explore again. When will I ever find the time for all the exploration I still want to do?
