Review – Lounge Key Lounge Don Muang Airport, Bangkok

The trip from my hotel and to Don Muang was quick and took me about 20 minutes. The cost was the same as coming from the airport, around 350 THB. As I had done online check-in I headed straight for immigration, and was through immigration and security check in a few minutes.

Re-discovering Bangkok

After check-in was completed I headed just across the street to one of my favourite restaurants in Bangkok, the Old German Beerhouse. It has been there since my first trip to Bangkok, and have a great selection of both local and international dishes (and a good selection of beers).

Review – Ambassador Hotel, Bangkok

Arriving at the Ambassador Hotel everything there looked just like it did the previous times I had been there. The location is excellent, in Sukhumvit Soi 11, so close to Skytrain station, shopping, restaurants and nightlife.

Introduction – 2 nights to re-discover Bangkok

Bangkok has ever since the first time I visited it been my favourite city in the world. It truly is a city that never sleeps, there is always something to see or to do, no matter where in the city you are, or what time it is.

I have probably spent about 7 months in Bangkok before, I used to travel 4-5 times per year in the mid 2000s, but I have not had much time to go there after my children were born.

Introduction – 48 hours in Saipan, Northern Mariana Islands

Ever since I landed my job in Hong Kong almost 2 years ago I was getting excited about the traveling oportunities from here. There are so many places available within a short distance of flying, and so many places to explore and discover.

Review, Cathay Pacific Airbus A330-300 Bangkok – Hong Kong economy

Boarding was already starting when I arrived at the gate, and as the flight was no more than 30% full there was no queue for boarding, so I was able to proceed directly to my seat.

When I did the online check-in one day before departure, I was more interested in finding an empty part of the cabin, so I assigned myself seat 72A if I remember correctly, almost in the rear of the plane. From experience I like the seats in this area of the airplane, the fuselage is starting to narrow here, and the seat configuration goes from 2-4-2 to 2-3-2, so there is more space between the seats, and as the fuselage is not straight here, the seats are places a bit further from the windows, so the A-seats have more space than in the rest of the plane.

Review, Oman Air Business and First Class lounge, Bangkok Suvarnabhumi

Check-in and Immigration was quick and efficient at Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport, and after security was cleared I headed towards my gate with about 90 minutes spare before boarding was supposed to be starting.

Oman Air First And Business Class Lounge.

I am a MasterCard LoungeKey member, and I was surprised to see that they had several lounges around Bangkok airport, normally my experience is that they are sharing Priority Pass lounges, but here they were using several different airline lounges.

Pattaya – Mostly Harmless

I last visited Pattaya in 2008 or 2009, and at the time I felt it was mostly a dump, and had no plans of ever visiting it again. But after a few of my colleagues had told me that it was quite nice nowadays and with a lot of things to do for kids, I thought I would give it another shot, and also have a look at it for a possible vacation spot with my kids?

Christmas holiday in Norway

So after clearing Immigration and getting our bags, we headed in the direction of Hertz to collect the Rav 4 I had booked. Upon arriving at the counter they offered me an upgrade to a Tesla Model S instead, for the price of 200 NOK per day. Considering it would give me free parking, free recharging and avoid paying the toll fees on the highways I decided to take it – it basically cost me nothing extra considering the extras that are included.

Introduction – A sudden trip to Pattaya, Thailand

I had leave planned for a couple of days, so I was booked to go and see the kids in the Philippines for 6 days, however, with the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) outbreak, Philippines has temporarily banned anyone traveling from Hong Kong to enter the country. As most things in Hong Kong are closed nowdays I needed a new plan for my 6 days off, and booked a last minute trip to Bangkok with Cathay Pacific, and from there transport to Pattaya which several of my firends have recommended. I was there in 2008 and thought it was mostly a dump, but I thought I’d give it a second chance. At least it is close and convenient, and I wanted a quick holiday where I could just relax and do as little as possible.
