All of Thailand has been closed down for tourists for quite a while already, in an attempt to try to curb the Corona-pandemic. This has been very successful so far, and Thailand has so far only had 3381 cases and 58 deaths, and daily infections are in the single digits region.
According to Bangkok Post they are now considering to open up, although with quite severe restrictions, making a quick holiday there impossible. However, it will probably be a fairly popular option for senior citizens from northern Europe who normally spend a few months each winter in Thailand.
The restrictions they are suggesting are:
- Eligible foreign tourists must travel to Thailand with Thai Airways International and undergo swab testing once they arrive at Suvarnabhumi airport.
- They can then take a flight to Samui without going through an immigration process.
- After arrival, the tourists will have to undertake swab testing again before entering a quarantine facility, he said.
- If the tourists test negative for seven days, they can leave their room but not the hotel.
- After 14 days, they will be allowed to travel outside with a special wrist band.
So being locked in your room for 7 days and then limited to your hotel for the next 7 days does not sound like a dream vacation (unless you are on a honeymoon maybe?) but if you are intending to stay in Thailand for a few months it might still be quite a few people willing to do this?
