Virgin Atlantic suspends Hong Kong flights until March 2023

Virgin Atlantic was originally planning on resuming flights between London Heathrow and Hong Kong from September 1st 2022, but they have now announced that they will only resume flight in March 2023 at the earliest!

The reason for extending the suspension of the route is “operational complexities”. The route was suspended in December 2021 due to covid travel restrictions and quarantine requirements in Hong Kong, and the new plan to resume the route is now set for March 26, 2023. Virgin Atlantic used to operate the route with a Boeing 787-9, and I believe this is the aircraft type they are planning to use when they resume the route again.

Meanwhile, British Airways has also suspended their twice daily flights, which used to be operated by one Boeing 777 and one Airbus A380, and are currently planning to resume their flights at the end of October (once daily only). However, this is just a preliminary plan, and I think we will see also this route suspended further if the quarantine requirements for Hong Kong are not relaxed before that time.
