Milestone achieved – 1 million miles flown!

I have, to the best of my ability, been looging all the flights I have done over the years, and just notied now that I have recently passed the 1 million miles milestone! Traveling has always been a passion of mine, and it has taken me to a lot of places, and created a lot of memories and experiences. Unfortunately, I have also lost a lot of memories in hard drive crashes over the years, which is one of the main reason I started this blog – mainly to have a safe place where I can keep my memories!

I grew up in Norway, so a lot of my initial flying was domestic flights there, and then further on to the rest of Europe.

European Flights.

I then spend 13 years living the the UAE, so then a lot of my traveling was focused to and from the Middle East Region.

Middle East Based.

Then my family re-located to the Philippines, whereas I got a job in Hong Kong, so for the last 7 years a lot of my traveling has been focused on commuting back and forth, and also some local exploration.

Asia based flights.

I have been to all contients, and have almost never been a place that I did not want to come back to, so I hope I will achieve my next 1 million miles soon too.

All my flights.

Statistics.

I would appreciate anyone who takes time to read my blog posts on Hongkongmiles.com – I am trying to be as up to date as possible with news from both Hong Kong and Clark airports, and I try to publish at least one review or holiday memory every Sunday at 6 pm HK time. Even though I work in the aviation industry, I have never been offered any discounted or free tickets, so all travels that I have done is paid for and funded by myself.

Seeing this statistics makes me think back and remember some of the exciting times I’ve had traveling. I don’t think I have almost no bad memories at all (except for my 1st trip to Vietnam, Hoo Chi Minh city in 2007, but Vietnam has really redeemed itself and is now one of my favorite destinations). Exploring Cambodia and Laos in 2007 stands out as exceptional – and I dread going back, in case my good memories disappear (like all my photos from then have…) Trying the 1st class suite on Etihad A380 is another outstanding memory. You can read that and other flight reviews here. I have stayed at some great hotels, and some not so great hostels. Most of those memories are gone too, and never written about, like the Emirates Palace Hotel in Abu Dhabi. Some other hotel reviews can be found here though, and hopefully many more coming soon. Another highlight that just came to mind was a trip to Kathmandu in 2004, and flying around Mount Everest in a Buddha Air Jetstream J31 if I remember correctly, I actually do still have the photos from then, so I need to make a retro review of that as well soon, to make sure it is never lost.

So far my traveling has been more about the destination than the trip itself, but I feel myself changing a little bit. I remember doing a train ride from Bangkok to Chiang Mai in 2005-ish, and that was amazing too. I should do more travels just for the trip itself, and hopefully I will find time for that. Trying some new airlines, go explore cities in China, try some high speed train rides (or scenic trains like in Japan or similar)…. or luxury buses, cruises, try different hotels – and restaurants! I think doing restaurant reviews will take too much time and energy, I am almost out of time as it is, but interesting idea.

I am also planning to do several daytrips from Hong Kong when I can, Taiwan, Cambodia, China, Vietnam, Thailand, Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia can all be within reach with the correct flight timings. Stay tuned for upcoming trips. I have never crossed the date line, nor down any flights over the North Pole, so those are also high on my bucket list. So much traveling to do. Love it. Also considering if I should try to make some Vlogs as well, so youtube will be responsible for storing my memories, but not sure if I have enough time and energy to learn how to do that. Maybe just give it a shot anyways, I really, really see the value in logging my past traveling experiences and help me remember things, so I think I should. Hmm… If only I didn’t have to work to pay for my travels, I would have so much more time to travel. So sad :/
