Hong Kong International Airport Records Remarkable Passenger Surge in fEBEUry 2024 Amid Steady Cargo Volumes

Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) continued its strong recovery into February 2024, with significant gains in both passenger numbers and cargo handling. The latest provisional data shows a remarkable year-on-year growth across most key metrics, though some areas experienced a slight cooling compared to January 2024.

Passenger Traffic: A Slight Decline but Still Robust Growth

In February 2024, HKIA handled 4.2 million passengers, reflecting a 96.5% increase compared to February 2023, which saw 2.1 million travelers. While this growth is impressive, it represents a minor increase compared to January 2024, which recorded 4.14 million passengers, a 100% increase. Over the past 12 months, HKIA welcomed 43.6 million passengers, up by 349.2%.

January 2024: HKIA Sees Record Flight Movements

The new year has brought encouraging results for Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA), as January 2024 saw a notable increase in both passenger traffic and cargo volumes. In its latest provisional report, the airport recorded a 100% year-on-year increase in passenger numbers, welcoming 4.1 million travelers, a significant jump from 2.07 million in January 2023.

Thai LionAir – new operator, competitive route

October 1st Hong Kong got yet another operator on the Hong Kong – Bangkok route. Thai Lionair has now started daily flights between Hong Kong and Bangkok’s old airport Don Muang. They are the 3rd operator on this route (in addition to Air Asia and Hong Kong Express), and I think the 7th operator between Hong Kong and Bangkok – in addition to the route above, Hong Kong – Bangkok Suvarnabhumi is operated by Cathay, Greater Bay, Emirates and Thai Airways.

Seasonal Flights from Hong Kong to Palau: A Unique Travel Opportunity

September 28 Hong Kong Airlines launched a 3-times-a-week service (rumored to be a seasonal charter flight) between Hong Kong and Koror in Palau. So far this route has only been operated by Cambodia Airways, so this is a nice addition, although I am not sure how long the router will last for or how easy it is to book – I have tried and failed 😀

Air Asia Indonesia commences flights to Hong Kong

Although Air Asia has been a long term costumer at Hong Kong International Airport, I think it is noteworth that their Indonesia Subsidary is starting operations to Hong Kong. From before we have Air Asia Malaysia, Thailand and Philippines operating, so this is kind of a new operator I guess.
