Cathay to bring back fleet parked in Alice Springs

With the outbreak of Covid-19 and the effect it had on aviation two years ago, Cathay Pacific parked a lot of their aircrafts for a long time. Initially they were parked at Chek Lap Kok Airport in Hong Kong as you can see on the picture above, and they slowly moved them to a long term parkin in the desert in Alice Springs in Australia.

Cathay Pacific reduces flight schedule further

As I rote about a few days ago, Hong Kong is introducing 2 weeks quarantine for aircrews from February 20th, and as a result of this Cathay has now announced further reduction to their passenger flights schedule.

Air Traffic Statistics at Hong Kong July 2020

To the surprise of nobody the traffic numbers at Hong Kong International Airport are stable low in the month of July 2020 as well. As always, the numbers are compared to the month one year previous, so those numbers are in comparison to July 2019.

Review – Cathay Pacific Business Class lounge, Manila.

The lounge in Manila was quite hard to locate, there were no (easily visible) signs pointing in the right direction, but after asking some of the terminal staff for directions I was finally able to locate it, upstairs from the main terminal at the end of a corridor. (It is located in Terminal 3, level 4, just above gate 114).

Cathay Pacific reports record-high HK$9.9 billion loss in first half of 2020

This does probably not come as a surprise to anyone, but Cathay Pacific is loosing money fast. With a reported drop in passenger number of more than 98.5% compared to a year ago, it is basically only the cargo division that is bringing some cash in for the company.

Cathay Pacific offers early retirement to older pilots

Cathay Pacific has projected that they have lost around 10 billion Hong Kong Dollars in the first 6 months of this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

So far Cathay has not laid off any pilots, and they have historically never done so before either, but as pilot costs is a big expense for them, they are now offering some of their senior pilots aged 50 and above early retirement.

As Cathay is starting to slowly resume flights, I thought it would be a good idea to also post an update on travel restrictions around the world for those lucky enough to be able to travel.
