2024 was a year when travel around the world finally was hassle-free again, and a lot of old routes and frequencies were re-installed. Traffic volume at HKIA was also steadily recovering, and there were lot of options for traveling. However, I still wasn’t able to complete a lot of my travel goals, so hopefully I will be better at it this coming year, but probably not.

As part of my covid-restriction and reaction I was living in hotels from January 2022 onwards, and one of the hotels I stayed at was the Cordis Hotel in Mong Kok, Hong Kong. Living in a hotel is very different from being a short term guest, and as such I will not make a review, but rather post a few pictures for my own memories only.

With Covid restrictions finally lifted in Hong Kong in October 2022, it was time to go traveling a little bit again (although mostly to see my family), but I did manage a quick trip to Bangkok to meet up with a good friend there as well.

I had finally reached Ambassador status with Marriott Bonwoy, and that came in handy for this trip. I had some business to attend to, so had booked one night (for 38.000 points) at the Marriott Manila hotel from September 1 to 2, 2024. However, late at night the day before I was traveling, I got an email saying my reservation was canceled with no explanation.

This was my 3rd time doing quarantine in Hong Kong, and while most of the world had already moved on, in August 2022 Hong Kong still insisted on 3 nights in quarantine for all arrivals.
-Date of stay: August 22-25, 2022
– Room booked: Standard room with City Views
– Room given: One=bedroom suite with ocean / airport view, rooms 1621 and 1623.
– Price: 1050 HKD per night, including 3 meals.
As I have more thorough review from my earlier and longer stays at the 4 Points during the quarantine-era in Hong Kong I will just limit this review to the room itself.

I was at this time a long term resident at the Renaissance Harbour View in Hong Kong, but due to a delegation of VIPs coming to Hong Kong for a visit, the hotel was not available for us plebs during those four days, so I was asked to move to either the Sheraton in TST or the JW Marriott in Admiralty instead. As the Sheraton was under renovation and warned there might be a lot of noise, I choose the JW Marriott for the 4 nights that was needed. The price was a special rate of 1200 HKD plus 10% service charge, so in total 1320 HKD per night.

I read in South China Morning Post yesterday that there are now talks about opening up for quarantine-free traveling between Hong Kong and Macau as soon as this month possibly (although I doubt it), but I thought anyways it was time to finish my last hotel review from Macau from 2020.

Knowing that the house would be full of visitors for Alexhandras 7th birthday, and the fact that I needed a little bit of a holiday on my own, I decided to check out the Angeles City Beach Club hotel (ABC Hotel) for a couple of nights after the family celebration of her birthday was finished 😀

I had previously been to Macau a couple of times on day-trips, but decided it was time to get to know the city itself a bit more, and not only the casinos, so decided to book a hotel for 2 nights. I looked around on Agoda.com for a while, and decided to book this hotel in the old part of the city, on the Macau peninsula.

Arriving at the Ambassador Hotel everything there looked just like it did the previous times I had been there. The location is excellent, in Sukhumvit Soi 11, so close to Skytrain station, shopping, restaurants and nightlife.
