This was my 3rd time doing quarantine in Hong Kong, and while most of the world had already moved on, in August 2022 Hong Kong still insisted on 3 nights in quarantine for all arrivals.
-Date of stay: August 22-25, 2022
– Room booked: Standard room with City Views
– Room given: One=bedroom suite with ocean / airport view, rooms 1621 and 1623.
– Price: 1050 HKD per night, including 3 meals.
As I have more thorough review from my earlier and longer stays at the 4 Points during the quarantine-era in Hong Kong I will just limit this review to the room itself.
I had booked a standard room with a king size bed, but as I was already a Platinum member with Marriott Bonvoy, I was hoping to score an upgrade at this stay, and on check-in I was informed that this was in fact happening. The 4 Points in Tung Chung only has one suite on each floor, which is quite nice and spacious, but for the quarantine era they had converted some of the connecting rooms into a suite instead, which is what I was given.
The standard connecting rooms is normally a combination of one room with a king size bed and one room with 2 single beds. For this ‘suite’ experience they have instead removed the 2 single beds from the one bedroom and put a nice sofa and table, and a separate chair with a smaller table, converting the rooms into one bedroom and one living room.
The rooms are not huge, but this set-up worked well for me as there also was a TV in each room.
The TVs are decent size, and compared to the size of the room just right. As this was a suite, I was also given a Nespresso machine without having to request it, and an unlimited amount of coffee capsules (available to order on the phone, which would be left outside the door, as no contact with other humans were still not allowed.)
The separate chair and table felt a little bit sad and like you had been sent to the naughty corner, but I put my laptop on it and connected it to the TV with a HDMI cable, which served as my entertainment for the 52 hours I was there.
The bedroom was faily standard, but there was a square chair and a square table by the window which I believe was different – the normal king size bedrooms normally has the table and chair that was in the naughty corner in the living room,
the bed was a standard king size bed, which is very comfortable and more than big enough. I am not sure if 4 Points and Sheraton use the same beds, but those two are by far my favorites at Marriott group hotels, I think I need one for my home too….
Also in the bedroom there was a TV, which I didn’t really use, as the sofa in the living room was more comfortable.
Also note how the bench/table below the TV is a lot lower in the king size room compared to the rooms with 2 single beds – in the bedroom if more functions as a long bench, whereas in the other room it’s more a table.
The views from the room on this side of the hotel were a world different compared to my previous stays on the other side – basically full privacy, overlooking the water and the airport a couple of kilometers away. I guess the neighbours staying at the Sheraton could peek into the room if they wanted to, but other than that is was fine 🙂
Although I have always found the quarantine stays to be easy, mentally speaking, this was even more relaxing. I had booked my flight to arrive in Hong Kong around 9 pm, and as the quarantine in Hong Kong at the time was only 3 days, that meany day 1 was already done by the time I checked in, and then I had to do 2 full days and check out 1 minute after midnight after that, so time passed very slow and I just spent the time catching up on Netflix, ordering food and playnig some games on my PC.
Overall I must say that the 4 Points was an excellent quarantine hotel, and I enjoyed my stays there. the food was decent, the options were plentiful, and most importantly, when I ordered anything from Foodpanda or Deliveroo they always brought it to my room in no time. They seemed to have a lot of staff, and any requests made via the phone were attended to promptly, and delivered to the rooms within minutes.
