Cebu Pacific’s planned thrice-weekly Clark–Hanoi launch is slipping again. Schedule filings now put the new A320 service on 5 January 2027 instead of 19 November 2026, per AeroRoutes.
Earlier this week I covered the restore as Cebu Pacific resumes Clark–Hanoi from 19 November 2026. That post still describes the intended pattern (including the overnight 5J5872/5J5873 shape CEB had been selling). What changes today is the start date: Christmas traffic comes and goes, and the first Clark–Hanoi rotations under this filing are now a January story.
Why I care from Hong Kong
I am not based in Hanoi, but Clark is family territory, and a nonstop CRK–HAN mattered because it gave a clean Vietnam north option without forcing everyone through Manila. Combined with VietJet’s Clark–Ho Chi Minh City launch (from 10 November), November suddenly looked like Clark’s Vietnam month. Pulling CEB’s Hanoi start into January leaves Ho Chi Minh City as the near-term Clark–Vietnam nonstop, and Hanoi as a new-year item again.
For my own HKG–CRK commute (about three Cebu Pacific trips a month), this delay does not cancel a ticket I already hold — I was never planning to overnight in Hanoi on the way to see family. What it does change is itinerary planning around the holidays: anyone hoping to combine a Clark visit with a quick Hanoi add-on in late November now needs either a different carrier/routing or a January rebook.
Why Vietnam keeps pulling me back
The delay also stings on a personal level, because Vietnam has slowly become one of my favourite countries in the region, even if it took a while to win me over. Ho Chi Minh City back in 2004 honestly did not go well: it was one of the very few times in all my travels that someone tried to scam me. Hanoi and Ha Long Bay in 2011 were a much better experience. Then Phu Quoc, an island that had been high on my list ever since I first saw a VietJet flight from there land in Hong Kong, is where I properly fell for the country. I wrote it all up in 36 hours in Phu Quoc, from the VietJet flight down and my bungalow at the Shells Resort and Spa to exploring the island: almost deserted beaches, street markets in Dương Đông and seriously cheap food, right up to the flight home.
Since then it has only got better. In September 2023 I spent 48 hours in Da Nang and was very pleasantly surprised: a stunning beach, friendly people, exceptional food and low prices. I flew HK Express, stayed at the 4 Points by Sheraton, explored the city, rode up to Ba Na Hills and finished in a surprisingly good Priority Pass lounge. I liked Da Nang so much that I went back with family in 2024. That is exactly why a nonstop Clark–Hanoi caught my eye: my Hanoi memories go back to 2011, and the city is long overdue a second look. For now, that reunion waits until 2027.

What moved
• Planned: new 3-weekly A320 Clark–Hanoi
• Was: from 19 November 2026
• Now: from 5 January 2027
• Same AeroRoutes filing also cuts Clark–Hong Kong frequencies for early winter (separate post)

I will keep an eye on whether CEB republishes exact 5J5872/5J5873 timings for the January start, and I will update the day-after follow-up that was sitting on the old mid-November date. Until the first January flights actually operate, treat November Hanoi from Clark as off the board.

Overall: useful route, later than hoped. Clark–Ho Chi Minh City is still the Vietnam nonstop to watch in November; Clark–Hanoi becomes a 2027 opener under the current filing.
