Hong Kong International Airport switched on a proper through-baggage corridor for Hangzhou and Wuhan on 3 November 2026 — one check-in at origin, bags tagged through to the final international destination (and the reverse), even when the HKG transfer is on a different carrier.
The pilot brands are 杭港通天下 (Hangzhou–Hong Kong Connect) and 鄂港通天下 (Wuhan–Hong Kong Connect), under the mainland “Linking the Trunk and Branch, Connecting Urban and Remote” push. Secretary for Transport and Logistics Mable Chan launched them at the Super Terminal Expo: Airport Authority Hong Kong and participating airlines — including Cathay Pacific and Hong Kong Airlines — have linked their systems with Hangzhou Xiaoshan, Wuhan Tianhe, and mainland IT provider TravelSky, so eligible interline itineraries can sell with through-check already baked in. Greater Bay Airlines has also publicly welcomed the corridors.
In practice: fly Hangzhou or Wuhan → HKG → overseas (or the other way) on a participating ticket, and you should no longer need to reclaim and recheck bags at Hong Kong for the connection. Same idea as classic through-check on a single ticket, but the point of this pilot is that it can work across airlines once the systems talk to TravelSky.
Caveats for anyone booking: it is still a first-phase / participating-airline product — confirm at purchase (and at check-in) that your specific itinerary is tagged for through baggage. Connection times, immigration rules for airside transfer, and which mainland partners are live will keep evolving beyond Hangzhou and Wuhan.
Useful for HKG-side readers who already treat Hangzhou as a dense shuttle (Air China HGH–HKG is double daily this Northern Winter) and for anyone routing via Wuhan’s rail/air hub into the Hong Kong long-haul network.
