I checked out of my room at 0915 for my 0930 airport transfer as per the letter I had gotten the day before in my bungalow. However, after I had checked out I was told my transfer was only at 10 am instead, so I had to hang around the reception for 30 minutes waiting for my complimentary airport transfer.
The drive to the airport was quick, and we arrived at the brand-new looking terminal at around 10:15, and check-in was empty, so I got my boarding pass directly, and was then pointed in the direction of immigration and security.
Arriving at immigration there were 3 other tourists hanging around, but all immigration counters were closed. Someone asked around for the immigration staff, but were very rudely to just wait. Maybe 20 minutes later finally one immigration officer arrived, and started processing the tourists.
After clearing immigration and security I saw that my flight was delayed (again), so I spent a bit of time exploring the terminal, but it was quite small, and consisted of 2 coffee shops and about 15 different souvenir shops, so not the most exciting place to spend time…
Finally around 12:10 boarding was starting, and I found my seat quickly, this time seat 14A.
Pushback started at 12:32, so 42 minutes later than the scheduled time of departure, not too bad. We had a quick taxi to the runway, and then after lining up we were sitting maybe 7 minutes on the runway. Normally that is a really bad sign and I was worried that there was some technical problem with the plane, but apparently they were just waiting for their departure slot time, and we were airborne around 12:50
We departed to the west, and had a nice view of Phu Quoc as we turned right and headed eastbound towards Hong Kong.
Vindpearl as seen above is the largest resort on the island, having the biggest casino in Phu Quoc and 27 holes gold course, several kilometers of beach front, jungle safari with loads of wild animals and awesomelooking bungalows – I think maybe next time I will consider staying here to see a different part of the Island.
Back to the flight, the aircraft was basically the same as I had in the opposite direction, so no need to review it in itself, as there was no food or drinks service, only the same items for sale as in the opposite direction.
But I must give credit to the cabin crew, on the seat row behind me there were three very entitled white women who insisted on moving from their seats to the empty seats on the emergency rows. VietJet charges extra for the extra legroom seats (I had paid for mine myself), but those three women did not want to pay for themselves, but kept arguing with the cabin crew. On two occasions the women just moved to the empty seats, but the crew quickly chased them back to their original seats, no matter how loud and obnoxious the women got. I made sure to thank the crew for being so professional loud enough for the ladies behind me to hear 😀
The rest of the flight was uneventful, and we landed runway 07L at Hong Kong around 16:10, 30 minutes behind schedule, and we had a short taxi to stand 504.
After having done two flights with VietJet I must say the airline itself is good – the seats are spacious and comfortable for a low cost operator, the crew was very professional and spoke very good English. The food and drinks for sale was plenty enough for a short flight like this. The only negative was their on-time performance, so I’ll keep an eye on that in the future when they are operating again.
