Review, Discovery Beach Hotel, Pattaya, Thailand

The driver dropped me off outside the main entrance of the hotel just before 2 pm, and there was a bellboy there to carry the suitcases inside for me. Arriving at the reception I was the only customer there, and the receptionist completed the check-in formalities and then asked me to take a seat while she would try to locate an available room for me.

  • Date of stay: February 5 to 10, 2020
  • Room type booked: Superior Double with Sea View
  • Price: 20.875 THB / 4157 per day.
  • Breakfast included? No

After waiting for a couple of minutes the receptionist came over and handed me my key card for my room, which was located on the 8th floor, room 815 I believe? The bellboy guided me to the elevator to take me up to the room.

The hall outside my room, quite bright, but had a bit of an old feeling to it.

The room itself was fine, about a standard size room, I would guess around 30 square meters with a large bed, sofa, tv and a balcony.

The bed
A small but comfortable enough sofa + mostly used to leave my dirty clothes on 😀
Small office desk with a TV with a good selection of TV channels.

On the balcony there were two chairs and a table – the chairs looks uncomfortable, but they were actually quite nice.

The bathroom was fine too, and had both a separate shower and a human-sized bathtub.

Shower – the rainshower was disconnected, but the rest worked fine
Sink and a couple of glasses.
The bathtub was large and comfortable
The toilet was standard size
Basic amenities – shampoo, soap and conditioner replaced each day.

In the wardrobe in the hallway there were hairdryer, umbrellas, spare pillows, slippers and bath robes

Then there was complimentary bottled water and tea and coffee, as well as a ok minibar with sensible prices and finally a regular sized safe.

The minibar was well stocked.

On the ground floor of the hotel there was a nice big swimming pool (with large areas for the kids and two small water slides), a OK gym (I didn’t go inside, but it looked fine from the outside) and a very small soft play area for toddlers.

The hotel had a great location, just across the road from the beach, and it had a nice beachfront restaurant as well. The pool was large and mostly empty, so no problem to get a bed or a spot there is you wanted to.

The night before my check-out I asked for a late check-out the next day as my service back to Bangkok airport would only collect me at 13:30, and after a few keystrokes on the computer it was approved for no extra charge.

Overall I was very happy with my stay at Discovery Beach Hotel, the staff was always friendly and helpful, the room was up to the standards I expected, the room was large enough, and the bed was comfortable. On the plus sided also the size of the bathtub and the swimming pool. The location is also great, just across the road from the beach, and about a 50 minutes walk to walking street – and just around the corner from Soi Six (more about that in my Pattaya review…)
