This one has kind of slipped past me, I was looking for the April numbers, and realized I had not updated the March numbers yet.
As expected, the numbers of people and airplanes using Hong Kong Airport is severely down in March compared to the year before, with all the travel restrictions that are in force.
The total number of passengers that travel through Hong Kong International Airport in March 2020 was down 91% compared to March 2019, from 6.420.000 to just 576.000,
The number of flight movements was down 67%, down from 36.752 a year ago to 12.115 this year. Passenger flights were down 82%, whereas cargo flights had an increase of 13.1%, from 5.104 to 5.775 – this is due to the reduction of cargo space available on passenger flights, and therefore they are operating more pure cargo flights instead.
With April and May being the hardest hit months traffic wise, it will be very interesting to see the new numbers when they are released, probably later this week.
