Arriving at the Ambassador Hotel everything there looked just like it did the previous times I had been there. The location is excellent, in Sukhumvit Soi 11, so close to Skytrain station, shopping, restaurants and nightlife.

HK Express Extends Temporary Suspension of Flight Operations Until 11 July 2020

HK Express announces the extension of its temporary flight operations suspension to 11 July 2020, in response to the on-going COVID-19 pandemic and travel restrictions imposed by governments around Asia Pacific. The airline plans to gradually resume flight operations on 12 July 2020, subject to market developments. Schedule adjustments will be made to the network for flights departing from 12 July 2020. Customers are advised to visit HK Express’ official website (https://www.hkexpress.com/en-hk/your-trips/important-travel-notice/) for the latest updates.

HK Express will continue to provide flexibility to customers whose travel plans have been affected, or those who are booked on flights departing on or before 31 July 2020. Customers can opt to change their travel date, travel route, refund in the form of credit vouchers or cash. Additional information is available on HK Express’ official website.

Cathay Pacific slowly resumes flights

At the end of March 2020 Cathay announced they were reducing their passenger flight schedule by 96% over the next couple of months. This has been extended, but now they are slowly getting ready to resume flights again.

Emirates resumes flights to Hong Kong.

On March 25, 2020, Emirates announced that they were going to suspend all flights until further notice due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Hong Kong was one of many airports around the world that lost one of their biggest operators, but now Emirates has slowly started flying again, and Hong Kong is on the list of airports that they will be serving.

Air Traffic Statistics at HKIA May 2020

The traffic statistics for Hong Kong International Airport May 2020 has been released, and I am sure nobody is surprised to hear that again the numbers are down 99.4% compared to May 2019, just like the numbers for April.

Review – Air Asia A320 Hong Kong – Bangkok Don Muang

I checked in for the flight online as I was only travelling with hand luggage, and as I finished the nightshift in the morning I headed straight for immigration and was in the transit area of the airport within minutes of finishing work.

My flight departed from gate 206, so I had to take the train between the main terminal and the midfield concourse. I arrived at the midfield terminal with about an hour to spare, so I grabbed a quick breakfast and a coffee from Starbucks before heading to my gate.

Passenger numbers at Hong Kong down 99.5% in April 2020

I am sure it comes as no surprise to anyone that passenger numbers at Hong Kong Airport is way down in April compared to last year.

This year in April there were only 32.000 passengers traveling through Hong Kong International Airport, down from 6.491.000 last year.

Flight movements also took a knock, but not quite as severe, mostly thanks to cargo flights. Total movements at the airport in April 2020 was 9.445, down 73.5% from 35.666 the year before.
